Exmouth RFC
Newton Abbot RFC

The top two sides in Devon Merit One – both unbeaten – went head to head at Raleigh Park where the visitors were taught a few tough lessons.

The Spartans scored a try through returning full-back Harry Allen and a penalty from Will Throgmorton in the first half, but in the face of a home onslaught trailed 30-8 at the half-way stage.

The visitors got their act together in the second spell to score four tries but they were never in front and any hope of an unlikely comeback win were dashed when Exmouth scored two late tries to ensure victory.

Allen scored a second try, centre Aaron Brown touched down and there was a try a piece for hooker Charlie Dore and replacement front-rower Will Luscombe.  Throgmorton added three more kicks.

As a consequence Exmouth (26 points) have gone top and the Spartans (25 points) have slipped to second ahead of Barnstaple (20).
