Newton Abbot Ladies kept their tremendous season going with a narrow victory at Chew.
The visitors had to overcome a deficit to lead at half-time and didn’t make the game safe until the last minute when winger Sam Smith scored her side’s fourth try.
Earlier, full back Hayley Hopkins had opened the scoring with a try that Amparo Medina Faux converted.
Chew hit back to lead through a couple of tries before scrum half Jess Veacock continued her rich vein of form with a try that left the visitors 12-10 up at the break.
Mid-way through the second half, Hopkins’ second try pushed Newton further ahead before the Somerset based hosts scored their third to get within two points again with six minutes left.
Newton closed the game out with Smith’s last gasp try to move back into second place behind unbeaten leaders St Mary’s Old Boys Ladies who are the only side to beat Newton this term.
Newton Ladies are next in action when they host Devizes on Sunday 9th December.
